20th Anniversary – Sunday 9th October

It hardly seems possible but it is actually our 20th anniversary on Sunday 9th October 2011. To mark this significant milestone we are holding a special service at the Weeke Community Centre at 10:30am. The guest preacher will be the Revd. Paul Gough, who was our first minister when the church was planted from Winchester Baptist Church back in 1991.

After the service there will be a lunch provided to which all are welcome (please let us know if you haven’t already that you are staying). We would also like to extend an invitation to all those who have been involved in the church in any way over the last two decades.

We look forward to a great service of celebration, and the meeting together of many old friends.

Quiz Night – Saturday 8th October

It’s a busy time at NWCC right now with special services and other events all happening over just a few weeks.

This Saturday is the second of the two quiz nights we hold each year. This time the theme is ‘twenty’ as it is the church’s 20th anniversary the following day! The start time is 7:30pm as usual. If you arrive a bit early you can get a head start on the table round.

The same format applies though, just come along as you are, or bring enough for a team, otherwise we will organise you into a team with others. Half way through we break for fish (etc.) and chips, before the second part, and the all important prize giving – for which every expense has been spared!

All profits will go to our charity of the year, which for 2011 is The Leprosy Mission. A more worthy cause it is hard to find.

Matinee Film Club – Wednesday 5th October

Matinee Film Club is back on schedule on the first Wednesday of alternate months. We had to move things around a bit to accommodate Cinema Club 49 who are tied to the school holidays.

It has been good to see so many of you at MFC and good too to get to know some of you over tea and cakes!

If you haven’t been before then you will be most welcome. Just come to the Weeke Community Centre a little before 3pm this Wednesday and we are in the main hall.

If you need a lift home then we can arrange that too.

Harvest Breakfast – Sunday 2nd October 2011

This Sunday 2nd October 2011 we are once again having a full English breakfast (starting at 9:30am) followed by a traditional harvest service at 10:30am.

You don’t need to bring anything for the breakfast but it would help (for catering purposes) if you could let us know you are coming.

At the harvest service there will be opportunity to give non-perishable food to be donated to the Night Shelter and Winchester Basics Bank.

Apparently there has been a surplus of home grown goodies this year so we are inviting people who have such a surplus to bag up suitable amounts and write a suggested donation on each one. After the service anyone can then browse and take what they would like, making the appropriate donation. The money collected will this year go to BMS.

Sunday 4th September – service at Littleton show tent

The Littleton show this year is on the Saturday 3rd September, and as usual the four local churches, including NWCC, will meet together for a service in the show tent at 10am on Sunday 4th. So, there won’t be a service at Weeke Community Centre on 4th September.

Things will be back to normal though on Sunday 11th September where Paul Hayter will be preaching. You would be most welcome.

Matinee Film Club – Wednesday 10th August

We had a very good time at the Matinee Film Club in June and it was good to meet all those who came along for the first time.

Our video licence prevents us from advertising the title of the film or making a charge of any kind. It is our intention to choose films that will be generally entertaining and interesting too. As usual, there will be a break part way through the film for tea/coffee and cake.

If you are concerned about transport home, it will be no problem to arrange a lift for you.

Cinema Club 49 – Wednesday 3rd August

This year CC49 is at the beginning of the long summer break. That may be no bad thing if the recent weather is anything to go by!

As usual there will be 2 films, a U and a PG. Of course, during the break we will have fruit juice and ice cream – we are currently getting through about 8 litres of both of these each time!

If you like to know more, or perhaps have some U or PG film suggestions, then please get in touch.
