This months subject is ‘America in my Eyes’ with Eunice Nicholson, which promises to be both informative and entertaining.

Cinema Club 49 – Wednesday 4th April, 3:30pm

The next CC49 is the Wednesday before Easter – 4th April, 3:30pm. There will be a U and PG film as usual, plus of course, ice cream and fruit juice at the half way point.

As it is Easter we also have a Cadbury’s Creme Egg for everyone to take home!

Regulars and newcomers alike are most welcome and there is no charge. There is space to store bikes and push-chairs, and parents can stay or leave and return later – whatever suits.

Easter Services at North Winchester Churches

Here is a brief list of the services shared between the churches over Easter (April):

1st – Palm Sunday at St Barnabas, 6.30 pm – Ecumenical Palm Sunday Praise.
5th – Maundy Thursday at St Barnabas, 7.30 pm – Ecumenical Holy Communion 7.30 p.m. followed by Vigil until midnight.
6th – Good Friday at Wesley, 9.30 am – Ecumenical Service led by John Yarrien followed by Coffee and Hot Cross buns. (these will be offered also to shoppers who will be invited in for free coffee).
8th – Easter Praise at Wesley, 6.30 pm – Ecumenical Easter Praise.

Quiz Night – Saturday 17th March 2012, 7:30pm

Join us this Saturday evening at the Weeke Community Centre for our spring Quiz Night! As usual there will be the wide ranging quiz questions, bar open, fish and chip supper, and modest prizes. The cost is £7 (earners), £5 (concessions) and £3 (children).

The quiz is done in teams of about eight, but if you don’t have a team, don’t worry, just come along and we will find you a team to join.

The profits from the evening go to support our charity of 2012, which is the Kevin Lay Foundation.

No need to book, just come along and join in.

Lent @ Costa

This year, the local churches are hosting a café style Lent course every Tuesday evening from 28th February to 27th March. We have live music from 7.00pm to around 7.30pm while coffees are getting ordered.

Each week, we shall be looking at ways the Christian faith can help us in our daily lives in a busy and stressed out world. A conversation starter talk will be given by Philip Cochrane and then guests discuss the issues it raises for them around their table. It will have a relaxed and informal environment ideal for inviting friends.

Cinema Club 49 – Wednesday 15th February

The first CC49 of 2012 will be on Wednesday 15th February during half term at the usual time of 3:30pm to 5:30pm.

If you have not been before then just come along and enjoy the films (there is always a U and PG). There is no charge as this is part of our community work, and our video license does not allow it. Fruit juice and ice cream are served during the interval, and there is even some popcorn this time too!

Parents are free to stay and watch a film, or leave and come back nearer the end. We take contact details on arrival so we can get in touch if necessary.

2011 charity of the year grand total

Each year NWCC chooses a charity to support, For 2011 we have been able to help The Leprosy Mission with a total of £483 raised through the various events we host, including the Christmas pantomime and the quiz nights. Thank you to all who made this possible.

New Year’s Meal 2012

Our New Year’s Meal is on Saturday 14th January at St Barnabas Church Hall, Weeke from 6.30pm. If you would like to come please let us know your meal choices. If you have a printed menu then please fill that in ASAP and give it to Julie. If not you can fill one in online. There is a modest cost of £10 for adults and £5 for children (but if that might be a problem for you then please let us know). This includes the three course meal, fruit juice or wine, and coffee to finish. There will also be a Wii in the side room in case younger ones need something to occupy them.

The end of 2011 is nigh, and we at NWCC would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. Thank you for sharing in all the events, services, and everything else that went on.

We will be having a service as normal on Sunday 1st January (10:30am, Weeke Community Centre), to which everyone is welcome.

If you have made a New Year’s resolution to get more spiritual in 2012, we would be honoured to travel with you on that journey, whether you are far along, or just wondering whether to even start. We believe that God’s gift of Jesus, that we celebrate at Christmas, really is the only way to make sense of life. At NWCC we learn more about Jesus together, we invite you to learn with us too.

Waitrose Carol Singing – the results …

Last night (20th) Christians of North Winchester gathered at Waitrose to sing carols and also collect for the local charities – Night Shelter, Basics Bank and the Trinity Centre. We all had a great time and the total raised was £213!

We would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to all who gave so generously, and of course, to Waitrose Winchester for hosting us and being so helpful.
