Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday this year falls on the 13th November. Though we hear news of the casualties of war throughout the year, it is fitting that we pause on this special day to consider the cost to those in our armed forces and also their families and friends.

The service starts at 10:30am, and will include 2 minutes silence at 11am. You will be most welcome to join us.

Quiz Night – Saturday 8th October

It’s a busy time at NWCC right now with special services and other events all happening over just a few weeks.

This Saturday is the second of the two quiz nights we hold each year. This time the theme is ‘twenty’ as it is the church’s 20th anniversary the following day! The start time is 7:30pm as usual. If you arrive a bit early you can get a head start on the table round.

The same format applies though, just come along as you are, or bring enough for a team, otherwise we will organise you into a team with others. Half way through we break for fish (etc.) and chips, before the second part, and the all important prize giving – for which every expense has been spared!

All profits will go to our charity of the year, which for 2011 is The Leprosy Mission. A more worthy cause it is hard to find.

The Big Welcome – Sunday September 25th, 10:30am

The Big Welcome is this coming Sunday, 25th September, 10:30am at the Weeke Community Centre . It’s a service where everyone is welcome – even if you never go to church, or you once did but don’t any more. The Big Welcome is just that, a big welcome from us to you.

Matinee Film Club – Wednesday 8th June

The Matinee Film Club meets again this Wednesday. We normally meet on the first Wednesday of the month but as we also run Cinema Club 49 which is in half term, it was necessary to delay Matinee Film Club for a week.

Everyone is welcome to come along and there is tea/coffee and cake in the interval. We watch on a large screen using a video projector so everyone can see.

If you need a lift home afterwards then that can be arranged.

There is no charge – our video license prevent this, it also prevents us from advertising the title of the film.

Messy Church – Thursday 19th May 2011

Messy Church is a totally new experience and great for the whole family. It features craft, stories, songs, games, snacks and more. Everyone is welcome but we do ask that children bring at least one adult with them. It will be at St. Barnabas Church, Fromond Road, and starts straight after school, ending at 5pm.

Matinee Film Club – Wednesday 6th April

The Matinee Film Club meets again on the first Wednesday of April. It was good to see so many people there last time. If you have never been then you will be more than welcome, there is no charge (as our video license prevents this) but there will still be tea/coffee and cake at the interval.

We understand that the buses are favourably timed to get to the Weeke Community Centre for the start at 3pm, but not so good for getting home again. If this is a problem for you, then don’t worry as it will be no trouble to give you a lift home.

Many who come to the Matinee Film Club also go to the Retirement Club, and you are warmly encouraged to come along to that too.

Quiz Night – Saturday 5th March

Our next Quiz Night is on Saturday 5th March 2011 at the Weeke Community Centre. Official start time is 7:30pm but you can come along any time after 7pm. The Quiz begins with a table round which you can be working on whilst waiting for all your team members to arrive.

If you don’t have a team, then no problem, just come along and we will find you a team to join.

Half way through we have fish (etc.) and chips (from The Plaice, Harestock). When you arrive there will be a menu choice sheet to add your choices to. If you don’t want to eat then that’s fine too.

Cinema Club 49 @ Wesley still on!

Despite a lot of snow last night in north Winchester, CC49 is still on. All is set up and ready to go. We will be showing two films as usual, and have fruit juice and ice cream half way through. At the end there will be hot-dogs, mince pies, tea and coffee. There is no charge at all as this is part of the north Winchester churches Christmas celebrations.

Parents are welcome to stay as usual, or you could nip (carefully) into town for some shopping. Remember that it is at Wesley (corner of Fromond Road and Stoney Lane near the shops). The doors open at 3pm and the films start at about 3:30pm, aiming to finish around 5:30pm (when hot-dogs will start).
