Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday this year falls on the 13th November. Though we hear news of the casualties of war throughout the year, it is fitting that we pause on this special day to consider the cost to those in our armed forces and also their families and friends.

The service starts at 10:30am, and will include 2 minutes silence at 11am. You will be most welcome to join us.

Quiz Night – Saturday 8th October

It’s a busy time at NWCC right now with special services and other events all happening over just a few weeks.

This Saturday is the second of the two quiz nights we hold each year. This time the theme is ‘twenty’ as it is the church’s 20th anniversary the following day! The start time is 7:30pm as usual. If you arrive a bit early you can get a head start on the table round.

The same format applies though, just come along as you are, or bring enough for a team, otherwise we will organise you into a team with others. Half way through we break for fish (etc.) and chips, before the second part, and the all important prize giving – for which every expense has been spared!

All profits will go to our charity of the year, which for 2011 is The Leprosy Mission. A more worthy cause it is hard to find.

Matinee Film Club – Wednesday 5th October

Matinee Film Club is back on schedule on the first Wednesday of alternate months. We had to move things around a bit to accommodate Cinema Club 49 who are tied to the school holidays.

It has been good to see so many of you at MFC and good too to get to know some of you over tea and cakes!

If you haven’t been before then you will be most welcome. Just come to the Weeke Community Centre a little before 3pm this Wednesday and we are in the main hall.

If you need a lift home then we can arrange that too.

Matinee Film Club – Wednesday 10th August

We had a very good time at the Matinee Film Club in June and it was good to meet all those who came along for the first time.

Our video licence prevents us from advertising the title of the film or making a charge of any kind. It is our intention to choose films that will be generally entertaining and interesting too. As usual, there will be a break part way through the film for tea/coffee and cake.

If you are concerned about transport home, it will be no problem to arrange a lift for you.

Pentecost Sunday – 12th June

This Sunday there is no service at Weeke Community Centre, instead we are joining with St. Barnabas to hold a joint service at Wesley Methodist Church at Weeke. You are of course most welcome to come along too.

The service celebrates Pentecost where the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples with amazing results.

The service at Wesley starts at 10:30am and is followed by a bring and share lunch. For more information please get in touch.

Matinee Film Club – Wednesday 8th June

The Matinee Film Club meets again this Wednesday. We normally meet on the first Wednesday of the month but as we also run Cinema Club 49 which is in half term, it was necessary to delay Matinee Film Club for a week.

Everyone is welcome to come along and there is tea/coffee and cake in the interval. We watch on a large screen using a video projector so everyone can see.

If you need a lift home afterwards then that can be arranged.

There is no charge – our video license prevent this, it also prevents us from advertising the title of the film.

Cinema Club 49 – Wednesday 1st June

CC49 is on as usual for the Wednesday of half term, 3:30pm at the Weeke Community Centre. Not been before – you’d be very welcome – parents can stay or go as they wish. We take contact details so we can call you back if necessary. CC49 has been running for several years now, more recently with two films so that we can cater for a larger age range.

If you have any film suggestions then just let us know. You can see a list of the films we have seen recently on our main page.

Yes, it was deliberate to print the A6 flyer that went to Harestock and Weeke schools as (almost) mirror images. We haven’t gone daft, just thought it would be fun. Look out for some more variations on the theme in the future!

We are still having ice cream (and fruit juice) in the interval. No one seems keen to go back to pop corn just yet!

Retirement Club – Wednesday 25th May, 3:15pm

Messy Church – Thursday 19th May 2011

Messy Church is a totally new experience and great for the whole family. It features craft, stories, songs, games, snacks and more. Everyone is welcome but we do ask that children bring at least one adult with them. It will be at St. Barnabas Church, Fromond Road, and starts straight after school, ending at 5pm.
